Who is this course for?
Do you know how to manage Varroa mites for a successful summer?
This course benefits new and established beekeepers. This course begins with a brief overview of how the year has gone so far for our pollinators and us as beekeepers.
During this briefing you will also have a chance to share how your colony or colonies are faring. After refreshments, we will go into the colonies to assess the honey/nectar flow, discussing how much to harvest sustainably.
Topics in the Summer Management course will include but are not limited to:
- Honey/Nectar flow assessment
- Sustainable honey harvests
- Colony population counts
- Varroa mite assessment & treatment
- Know when a honey dearth is coming and how to prepare
- Robbing & how to minimize it
- Harvest techniques and equipment
Course tasks will vary depending on WHEN you enroll in the summer course. Honey harvests take place in late July/early August. But don’t feel that the beginning of summer is less important. Early summer work helps to set your bees up for better success.
There will also be time for discussion and questions in order to give you the most out of this course. The key focus will be how to harvest honey and beeswax using sustainable methods.
There will be refreshments available as well as information handouts to take home with you.
