Welcome to the Southern Appalachian School of Apiculture!
Who is this course for?
Did you know that your actions in the spring set you up for the rest of the year?
This course benefits those who already have bees OR are going to soon have them, so that they can take what they’re learning and immediately apply it.
Topics covered in the Spring Buildup course include but are not limited to:
- Catching swarms
- Utilizing bait hives
- First Spring Inspection: What to look for and when to do it
- Spring feeding: Should you feed? Why or why not, when and how
- Making increase: splitting hives effectively
- Observational experience
- Failed colonies: post mortem analysis
- Assessing forage availability
- Pest & Disease management protocols
- Varroa mite assessment & treatment
Join us as we utilize this hands-on course to take your beekeeping skills way past what you learn in the books…
There will also be time for discussion and questions in order to give you the most out of this course. The key focus will be how to maintain honey bee hives in such a way as to help our ecology and benefit all of our pollinators PLUS setting the hives up for a productive summer.
There will be refreshments available as well as information handouts to take home with you.
