Who is this course for?
Do you know how to properly and effectively prepare your hives for the cold winter months?
Preparing your hives for winter properly will increase their survival success and your confidence as a beekeeper.
One of the keys to successful beekeeping is learning how to anticipate their needs at least one season before they need them…and taking action to make those needs a reality.
So if you have more winter losses than you would like or have no clue how to properly prepare them the best way possible for the harsh wet/cold winters, then you’re in the right place!
After the fall frost kills the remaining wildflowers there won’t be any more sources of nectar or pollen for several months. I’ll show you exactly what you need to do for the best results.
The Fall/Winter Preparations course covers but is not limited to:
- Varroa treatments
- Available fall forage
- Winter stores: how much honey, pollen and brood do they have?
- How bees cope in order to survive the winter months
- Quilting boxes and in-hive feeding
- Honey storage
- Cleaning and organizing unused equipment
- Preparing equipment for the upcoming spring
- Future plans: what are your goals or what should they be for next year?
- Winter observations and hive activities to know about
- Varroa mite assessment & treatment
There will also be time for discussion and questions in order to give you the most out of this course. The key focus will be how to assess and setup your hives for a successful winter.
There will be refreshments available as well as information handouts to take home with you.
